BIR paper division announces program for Berlin

The BIR Paper Division has confirmed their panel of invited guest speakers that will provide delegates in Berlin with information of strategic importance in the framework of the current challenging business climate. Under the presidency of Reinhold Schmidt, Recycling Karla Schmidt, the divisional plenary session takes place on Tuesday, 31 May 2016 at 10.30 at the Berlin InterContinental Hotel.

First speaker is William P. Moore, president of Moore & Associates (USA), an international consulting firm engaged in providing a range of strategic services to the paper recycling industry. Prior to his many years as a consultant, he held a series of positions in the solid waste, paper and recycling industries. These included founder and vice president of Paper Recycling International (a joint venture of Stone Container) and director of recycling for Waste Management, Inc. He was responsible for the start-up of Waste Management’s “Recycle America” programme, the largest introduction of recycling services in the United States. Mr. Moore’s knowledge base includes all aspects of the worldwide supply and demand of recovered paper. The title of his presentation is “The state of North American paper recycling and its impact on the global market”.

The second presentation will be given by John Paul Mackens, Business Development Manager (Europe) Secondary Raw Materials of Kühne + Nagel (AG & Co.) KG (DEU). With over 67.000 employees at more than 1000 locations in over 100 countries, the Kühne + Nagel Group is one of the world’s leading logistics companies, specialised in seafreight, airfreight, contract logistics and overland businesses. Mr Mackens draws his expert knowledge from 15 years of logistics experience in secondary raw material shipment for export, import and crosstrade. He is also board member of the task force “International Plastic Marketplace” of Germany’s recycling association bvse. In his presentation, he will speak more specifically on the international maritime safety treaty SOLAS and its impact on export shipments: “SOLAS – No verified weight – No export shipment”.

The third speaker is Stefan Geibel, Managing Director of Veolia Umweltservice Wertstoffmanagement GmbH (Hamburg, Germany), which is part of the Veolia Group, a leading global resource management company with 174,000 employees in 5 continents. Mr Geibel has held his position within Veolia since 2012 and looks back at over 20 years of experience in the paper industry. The title of his presentation is: “The evolution of the German recovered paper market over the last years – from net exporter to net importer”.

The Paper Division plenary session will also feature expert market reports from the major world regions.
