Whitham Mills wraps up double local authority deals

Waste management machinery designer and manufacturer Whitham Mills has been appointed by two local authorities in North Wales, to provide new balers for operation in the council’s material recovery facilities (MRF).

Flintshire County Council and Conwy Council have turned to the supplier, after the Greater Manchester company supplied full MRF systems to both authorities in 2012.

Flintshire County Council has upgraded its existing system, with the addition of two semi-automatic 40H balers, to its MRF facilities on Spencer’s Industrial Estate, Buckley.

Conwy Council has purchased a GB1108FSS aluminium baler, capable of processing 4 tons per hour, for its site at Bondlondeb.

Conwy Council already operates a small MRF system and a mini MRF system for the separation of plastic bottles, cardboard, aluminium cans and steel cans from segregated household waste.

Flintshire’s new 40H balers will increase the authorities’ capacity to process steel and aluminium cans. These are an upgrade from the existing continuous round tin-balers and will allow the council to produce up to three bales per hour.

This installation represents a significant growth in processing capacity for Flintshire County Council and is expected to increase income for higher quality recycling materials.
