Building C is the final phase of the new main hospital building under the OYS2030 development programme. The project aims to consolidate outpatient specialist care and teaching functions within one facility and is planned to support shared use of space and efficient logistics. The building will include specialist outpatient clinics and day hospital activities, pathology laboratories, teaching and training facilities, and a teaching-focused social and health centre.
Construction is scheduled to begin in autumn 2025, with completion planned for summer 2029. The total project budget is reported at €235.3 million.
Envac’s system will transport waste through an underground pipe network from collection points throughout the building to a central terminal. The solution is intended to reduce manual handling and internal waste transport, and to limit the need for temporary storage in clinical areas. According to Envac, the system is expected to support infection control by reducing waste movement within the facility, improve working conditions by lowering the number of trolley movements and heavy lifting tasks, and free up space for clinical and teaching use. It is also intended to contribute to site environmental targets by reducing internal transport activity and associated emissions.
Building C is being delivered through an alliance that includes the North Ostrobothnia Welfare Region and NCC Suomi Oy. Envac will work with the alliance partners to integrate the automated waste collection system with the building’s architectural, technical and logistics solutions.
