By integrating recycling operations with manufacturing, the facility allows recycled EPS to be processed on site and reintroduced into new insulation products. This approach supports increasing demand for insulation materials containing recycled content and aligns with regulatory developments affecting the construction and packaging sectors.
The facility forms part of BEWI’s wider European collection and recycling programme. It is equipped with sorting and mechanical processing technology and has an annual recycling capacity of up to 3,500 tonnes of EPS. Feedstock consists of post-consumer and post-industrial insulation and packaging waste sourced from the surrounding region. The recovered material is processed into raw material for new insulation products, including EPS and XPS solutions marketed by the company.
The project was implemented in cooperation with external partners from research, funding and local stakeholder organisations. Collaboration across the value chain, including collection, logistics, recycling and manufacturing, is a key requirement for establishing functional EPS recycling systems at industrial scale.
BEWI continues to expand its EPS collection and recycling activities across Europe. In 2025, the group collected more than 38,000 tonnes of EPS, representing the highest collection volume among insulation producers. In addition to the new Norwegian facility, the company operates recycling plants in Sweden, Czechia, Portugal, Belgium and the Netherlands, and holds minority interests in a recycling facility in Poland.
