The partnership aims to improve coordination between the two organisations and to strengthen joint representation of recycling industry interests within European policy frameworks. As part of this initiative, a Nordic working group will be established to support structured and continuous dialogue.

The cooperation focuses on the further development of the recycling industry, the promotion of environmental and climate objectives, and the support of open and fair international trade conditions for secondary raw materials. Both associations emphasise the importance of stable market conditions and regulatory frameworks that enable innovation and competitiveness across the European recycling sector.

VDM and Svenska Järn share the view that protectionist measures and excessive state intervention can distort markets and limit the efficient functioning of recycling value chains. Against this background, the cooperation is intended to contribute to evidence-based policy discussions and coordinated industry positions at European level.

The newly established Nordic working group will meet on a regular basis to exchange information, align policy positions and contribute to a coordinated industry dialogue across Northern Europe. Through this mechanism, the associations aim to improve transparency and consistency in their engagement with European institutions and stakeholders.

Within the framework of the cooperation, VDM and Svenska Järn will coordinate their activities in European policy initiatives where appropriate. Joint positions and statements will be prepared and published under the names of both organisations, reflecting a shared approach to key regulatory and market-related issues affecting metal recycling and secondary raw materials.

The strengthened cooperation underlines the commitment of both associations to a competitive, sustainable and open European recycling industry, supported by cross-border collaboration and coordinated representation.
