Wilms represents the German waste management federation BDE and is Managing Director of Remondis Service International. He has longstanding experience in waste management, recycling and secondary raw materials, as well as in EU-level policy discussions related to the circular economy.

Prior to taking office, Wilms spent the past year engaging with FEAD’s national member associations across Europe. This included exchanges with member organisations on regulatory, economic and operational challenges facing private waste management companies at European level.

As President, Wilms has identified fair and open market conditions as a key priority for FEAD members. This includes addressing competitive imbalances between public and private operators within the EU, as well as market pressures from non-EU companies operating under different environmental and social frameworks.

Another focus of the mandate is strengthening demand for recycled materials produced within the European Union. According to FEAD, supportive market conditions and policy incentives are required to promote the use of EU-made recyclates, encourage investment in recycling infrastructure and contribute to Europe’s resource security.

FEAD acknowledged the contribution of outgoing President Claudia Mensi, under whose leadership the association developed its Vision 2030, placing circular economy objectives at the centre of its policy work. During her term, FEAD further consolidated its role in EU policy discussions related to waste management and resource efficiency.

The association has also expanded its membership with the admission of ARSMD, the Romanian Association of Waste Management Companies, as a full member. FEAD now represents 21 national associations, covering the private waste and resource management sector across Europe.
