ZenRobotics, a company offering AI-powered robotic sorting, and US Conveyor, a specialist in custom scrap metal recycling systems, have secured a new order for seven Heavy Picker robots from one of the largest steel recyclers in the United States. This follows the successful installation of three units for the same customer in 2024.
The partnership combines Zen Robotics’ automated sorting technology with US Conveyor’s expertise in system design and integration. According to both companies, the robots can be seamlessly integrated into new or existing facilities, making advanced automation accessible even for older scrap sorting lines.
The Heavy Picker uses AI and robotics to separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals with high precision. It has already proven effective in removing copper meatballs, wires, and contaminants from steel scrap. This is especially important as steelmakers face stricter purity requirements, including maintaining copper content below 0.1 percent in recycled steel.
Operating autonomously 24/7, the robots reduce manual labor in hazardous environments and improve workplace safety. Real-time reporting tools give operators greater control over performance and material quality.
Zen Robotics and US Conveyor emphasized that the repeat order demonstrates strong confidence in robotic solutions as the scrap industry adapts to rising demand for high-purity recycled metals, sustainable processing, and safer working conditions.
