Rope manufacturer Marlow announced the introduction of “Blue Ocean Dockline”, a rope made using 100% recycled plastic bottle yarn. The rope will be made available pre-spliced and on reels.
Andusia has announced they have partnered up with a new SRF supplier, Mid UK Recycling. They plan to ship 20,000 tonnes a year of SRF to be recovered at two cement plants in the Mediterranean.
Saudi Arabia’s Alfanar Group has announced that it will set up a renewable energy office in the UK, through its subsidiary ‘Alfanar Energy UK Ltd.’. The office will oversee Alfanar’s investments in the UK, including a £1bn investment into six waste-to-energy projects.
Umicore has reported a fire today at a peripheral installation of the smelter at Umicore’s Hoboken plant. No casualties are reported. The fire brigade extinguished the fire. The impacted installation is currently shut down while the rest of the plant remains in operation.

Valmet and Uni Viridas have signed a ten-year operation and maintenance agreement for the biomass power plant in Babina Greda, Croatia. The order is included in Valmet’s first quarter of 2019 orders received. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

Herbold Meckesheim GmbH was hit by a devastating fire during the night to Monday 10/09/2018. Affected are the central warehouse and the shipping department. The damage is estimated to run into the millions. The office space, the test centre and the production halls are not affected. The production will continue with certain restrictions and compensated by existing structures. The company together with the insurance company has already started the repair work. Herbold will try to avoid serious delivery bottlenecks. The low in-house production depth and a high quantity of supplies from subcontractors will enable a quick restart of machine and spare parts deliveries as soon as logistics have been put back on track. Luckily, there were no casualties.
After almost four years of development, Mondi and Werner & Mertz will introduce a new, patented innovation in 2019: a 100-percent recyclable pouch with detachable decorative panels. The pouch replaces conventional flexible packaging for Frosch products. The pioneering design overcomes many shortcomings of the recycling process and is the result of a joint effort by Werner & Mertz, Mondi, EPEA Switzerland, Der Grüne Punkt and Institut cyclos-HTP.
