BIR: Spotlight on the Indian Recovered Paper Market

The BIR Paper Division will be organising a diversified meeting at its upcoming plenary session on Monday, 16 October 2017 at 15.00 at the Taj Diplomatic Enclave, New Delhi.

Attendees will be hearing four guest presentations from industry experts on topics ranging from the Clean India Programme known as “Swachh Bharat” to an appraisal of the global recovered paper markets.

The first speaker, Mr Jogarao Bhamidipati, Director at Source Global Fiber Inc. (India) will address the question of “How Swachh Bharat movement can help the Indian paper industry by improving recycled fiber collection”. Currently running a business outfit to push the recycling cause as well as sourcing fiber for Indian paper mills, Mr Bahmidipati has gained valuable experience in the coordination of domestic scrap paper collection for Indian paper manufacturer ITC Limited in order to encourage Indians to recycle paper. He has been involved with ITC’s implementation of the WOW (Wealth out of Waste) campaign, a CSR recycling program launched in 2007 that aims to inculcate the habit of recycling among school children, housewives, corporate employees and the general public as well as industries and business enterprises. Mr Bahmidipati was named amongst the top 50 most influential people in the global paper industry by RISI in 2010, and awarded the BIR Papyrus Award in 2009.

Second guest speaker Mr Pradeep Dhobale is Director and Operating Partner in Springforth Investment Managers Pvt Ltd (India), the investment management firm from Springforth Capital Advisors. Springforth is a 5-year old full service mid-market investment bank pioneered by a group of finance professionals in partnership with industry experts in the areas of food, agriculture and logistics. Among other high level positions, Mr Dhobale was nominated by the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry as Chairman of the Development Council for Pulp, Paper & Allied Industries for two years. He is a past President of the Indian Pulp and Paper Technical Association and the Indian Paper Manufacturers Association, and also the founding President of the Indian School of Business – Centre for Executive Education Alumni Association, Hyderabad Chapter. He will speak on “The expanding state of Indian paper mills”.

Third speaker Mr SVR Krishnan is Executive Director and Head of Operations at Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (India), a company established by the Government of Tamil Nadu during the early eighties to produce newsprint and printing & writing paper using bagasse-sugarcane residue as primary raw material. TNPL’s vision is to be the market leader in manufacture of world-class eco-friendly paper adopting innovative technologies for sustainable development. Mr Krishnan has more than 33 years’ experience in paper and coated board manufacturing, and application of paper and paperboard in the converting industry. He has also been involved with ITC Limited in its Paper Board and Specialty Papers Division for over 23 years.

A fourth guest presentation will be given by Mr Andreas Uriel, Managing Director at Uriel Papierrohstoffe GmbH, a Germany-based company specialised in the processing of recovered paper and packaging waste. Mr Uriel has over 30 years’ experience in the paper recycling business, including a sound knowledge of rewind operations for processing damaged paper rolls.
