All-electric high-torque drive reduces operating costs

The powerful PowRex drive solution for shredders, consisting of DST2 high-torque motors and b maXX servo drives, utilizes the high peak and nominal torques as well as the low inertia of the torque motors and combines these with dynamic control.

This leads to a high throughput rate and higher productivity with maximum energy efficiency. The resulting lower operating costs are a significant advantage compared to a hydraulic drive or a drive with asynchronous motors, according to the IEC standard, so-called standard motors. The sometimes higher acquisition costs for a high-torque drive are therefore amortized within a very short time.

WEIMA: Single-shaft shredder with system solution comprising motor, servo drive, gearbox and friction clutch

At IFAT 2026, shredding machine manufacturer WEIMA will be exhibiting a waste shredder from the W8 series with an electric high-torque drive in Hall B6, Stand 239. Like the W5 shredder from WEIMA, the W8.15 PowerLine is equipped with the PowRex drive system from Baumüller. In close cooperation, Baumüller and Nidec DESCH offer a coordinated complete system consisting of motor, servo drive, gearbox and friction clutch.

Modernization instead of new acquisition

In order to benefit from the energy efficiency of the highly dynamic high-torque drive system, it is not necessarily necessary to purchase a new shredding system. If the mechanics are still in order, a shredder can also be brought up to date by retrofitting the drive system. And at significantly lower cost and often faster than buying a new one.
