The U.S. recycling technology startup Glacier has entered into a collaboration with Waste Connections to test and deploy AI-based sorting systems at a facility in Pennsylvania. The project marks a step toward greater automation in materials recovery, aiming to increase efficiency and improve the quality of sorted recyclables.

Glacier specializes in robotic systems that use artificial intelligence and computer vision to identify and separate different types of waste materials. By partnering with Waste Connections, one of North America’s leading solid waste and recycling service providers, the company is moving its technology from pilot testing toward broader industry adoption.

According to Glacier, the robots can work alongside human staff to process large waste volumes while reducing contamination levels. The project in Pennsylvania aims to provide practical insights into how AI-driven automation can be integrated into existing material recovery facilities.

The collaboration reflects a broader industry trend toward using digital tools and robotics to modernize recycling infrastructure in the United States.
