Processes in recycling and secondary raw materials recovery require defined fine grain sizes to enable downstream steps such as wind sifting, magnetic separation and sensor-based sorting. Screening therefore remains a central stage in material processing. However, fluctuating moisture, temperature and material composition influence material behaviour and can reduce screening quality and throughput. Blocked apertures and agglomeration lead to reduced performance and require regular cleaning.

Challenges in multi-deck screening

Multi-deck screening machines can increase throughput but operate with uniform stroke and speed settings across all decks. This limits flexibility and requires compromises between decks, which can affect separation efficiency and process stability. In practice, cleaning intervals may increase when screen apertures become clogged, particularly with adhesive or moist materials.

Modular dynamics for process control

The VARIOframe screening machine addresses these limitations through a modular design. The dynamics of the flip-flop deck can be adjusted independently of other decks during operation and independently of the machine speed. This allows targeted adaptation to changing material properties.

Short-term increases in stroke enable mechanical self-cleaning of the screen media, reducing the need for manual intervention. At the same time, the operating parameters can be adapted to the feed material, for example by increasing dynamics for cohesive materials or reducing them to limit particle stress.

In larger systems, the flip-flop deck can be divided into zones, enabling differentiated adjustment between inlet and outlet areas. This supports more precise control of material flow and contributes to stable screening conditions.

According to the manufacturer, the development of the VARIOframe screening machine focused on maintaining consistent screening quality and throughput while reducing maintenance effort.
