New PCR capacity for engineering plastics

Polykemi and Rondo Plast have invested nearly SEK 25 million over the past two years to expand their plastic recycling capacity. According to the companies, the additions increase production by around 7,500 tonnes of recycled material annually and broaden access to post-consumer recycled feedstock for engineering compounds.

Capacity expansion through two investments

In 2024, the companies installed an Erema recycling system with an annual capacity of 5,000 tonnes. In March 2026, they added a ReadyMac unit with a further 2,500 tonnes of annual capacity.

The new line enables a larger share of the recycling process to be handled in-house at an earlier stage. This allows process stabilisers to be added during upgrading and strengthens quality assurance in the production of recycled plastics.

The investment also improves feedstock availability. Polykemi and Rondo Plast say they can now process material from additional waste streams, including marine ropes and nets, bottles, and growing volumes of nonwoven and fibre-based materials. Until now, suitable pre-processed feedstock at the required quality level has been available only in limited quantities. By carrying out more of the treatment themselves, the companies expect to secure more stable supply for customers.

PCR expands into engineering plastics

The companies state that post-consumer recycled material has so far mainly been used in polypropylene and polyethylene. With the new equipment, they can now also process PCR in polycarbonate, ABS, polystyrene and polyamide.

This expansion is linked to improved contamination removal during upgrading. Using laser filtration technology capable of removing contaminants down to 100 micrometres, the companies say they can now produce cleaner recycled feedstock for higher-value engineering applications. This extends their portfolio of recycled compounds beyond standard polyolefins.

Focus on regulation, supply and logistics

The investments are part of a strategy to strengthen the companies’ position in recycled plastics and prepare for tighter regulatory requirements affecting both processors and customers.

In addition to increasing in-house process control, the companies expect the new setup to improve supply reliability and reduce transport needs during material refinement. They also state that the combination of output volume and material quality places them among a limited number of suppliers in Europe able to deliver recycled engineering compounds at this scale.
