CarbonLITE Holdings LLC has announced that PET bottle-to-bottle recycling leader CarbonLITE will build a new plant, to be located in the state of Pennsylvania. This facility will enable the company to increase the number of post-consumer PET beverage bottles it recycles annually by 50 percent – to more than 6 billion. The new $60 million plant is scheduled for startup in late 2019.

The Polymers Business unit of Total S.A. and Polystyvert, a Montreal-based clean technology startup with an innovative method for polystyrene recycling, today announced the signing of an agreement to work together on the dissolution and purification of household post-consumer polystyrene.

Commenting on the EU news today, Piotr Barczak, waste policy officer at the European Environmental Bureau, said: “After years of discussions, it is now time for EU countries to walk the talk on waste reduction. These laws are necessary to tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues such as pollution in our cities and environment. CEWEP welcomes the North London Waste Authority as a new member. NLWA is responsible of waste management for the waste collected in seven London borough, amounting to approximately 850,000 tonnes a year. Complementary to re-use and recycling facilities, NLWA’s Edmonton Waste-to-Energy plant processes around 500,000 tonnes of residual waste yearly, producing enough electricity to supply 85,000 homes.
