Carpet Recycling grows in the US

According to the new report of the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE), in 2013 14 percent of carpet was recycled or used to produce energy.

This means an increase of recycling of 52 percent, compared to 2012. According to CARE, the 14 percent recycling is equivalent to taking 40,822 cars off the road or enough energy to power 17,692 homes for a year.

Those 14 per cent make up for more than 500 million pounds of carpet that did not go to landfill. 35 per cent of this carpet was recycled into new products: About one half of this was manufactured into engineered plastic resins, the other half was turned back into new carpet.
