New Finder metal recovery platform

Tomra Recycling has introduced the Finder metal recovery platform, a modular system for sorting mixed non-ferrous materials. The system is designed to process input streams such as shredded end-of-life vehicles and electronic scrap. It separates copper and brass fractions, recovers insulated wire, cleans stainless steel and enables the sorting of printed circuit boards from electronic waste.

Modular design for flexible configuration

The Finder metal recovery platform is based on a modular architecture with multiple sensor options. Operators can configure the system according to specific application requirements and expand it as needed. The revised mechanical design supports integration into existing plants and facilitates access for maintenance. The system combines mechanical, pneumatic and software components to support stable operation under varying input conditions.

Sensor technology for metal recovery

An electromagnetic sensor forms the basis for distinguishing metals from non-metals. The system incorporates revised valve blocks and an adjustable air unit to optimise ejection control and reduce compressed air consumption. Additional protective components are designed to minimise wear and reduce maintenance requirements.

The combination of different sensor technologies enables the classification of complex material streams. Integrated near-infrared sensors support the separation of printed circuit boards and plastics from electronic scrap as well as the recovery of insulated wires.

AI-supported sorting processes

Optional technologies extend the functionality of the Finder metal recovery platform. The DEEP LAISER system enables object recognition for the targeted removal of non-metallic materials, including dark plastics. A high-resolution RGB camera combined with AI-based processing allows the detection of fine or overlapping objects, independent of object height.

The platform can also be combined with the GAINnext deep learning system, which uses trained data models to address complex sorting tasks. This integration is intended to support further development of AI-based applications in metal sorting.

Digital monitoring and process control

Digital functions are integrated into the system architecture. Operators can monitor and control multiple sorting units via a central interface. Machine status and performance data are updated continuously.

The optional Tomra Insight platform provides cloud-based data analysis, enabling monitoring of machine condition and material flows. This supports adjustments to changing input materials and quality requirements.

Maintenance and service access

The Finder metal recovery platform includes design features aimed at simplifying maintenance. A service bridge and internal access platform allow access to key components. A tiltable ejection module provides access to valve blocks, reducing service time and facilitating maintenance procedures.
