At the centre of the installation are six Mistral+ CONNECT™ Full Package optical sorters. These units are configured to recover rigid plastics, flexible plastics, brown cardboard and wood from mixed CD&I waste streams. The system architecture allows for software-based upgrades of sensors and sorting technologies to adapt to evolving operational requirements.
Integration of AI-Based Sorting
The facility is designed to incorporate CNS BRAIN, an AI-based module for fibre sorting and wood classification. The system enables the separation of wood into A- and B-grade fractions and supports consistent material quality.
Digital Monitoring and Process Control
The installation integrates digital tools for performance monitoring and maintenance management. Automated alerts are intended to support operational continuity and reduce downtime. In addition, the sorting equipment is connected to SMART&SHARE, providing real-time operational data. This allows plant operators to adjust sorting parameters and optimise process performance.
Contribution to Material Recovery
Once operational, the C&D recycling facility is expected to increase material recovery rates from CD&I waste streams. The plant contributes to the processing capacity for secondary raw materials in the UK and Ireland and supports the further development of circular material flows.
