Rare earth metals are gaining massively in importance in the context of the mobility and energy transition as well as digitalization. Although most of these metals are present in sufficient quantities, they are not everywhere. When it comes to recycling, things don't look too rosy so far. Scientists from China, Germany and the USA have now developed a concept for a circular economy for rare earth metals. One thing is clear: recycling alone will not be enough in the future.
