Paddy McGreavy joins the Greater Manchester-headquartered engineering firm from listed packaging giant DS Smith, where he worked in a number of senior roles on the recycling side of the company.

During his 37-year tenure with FTSE 250 company, he was responsible for growing the business into mainland Europe: opening new depots – and modernising existing sites – in Italy, Croatia and Serbia. He also spent spells managing the Leeds and Bolton depots: the former being one of DS Smith’s largest sites, handling more than 12,000 tonnes of paper and card recycling per month. Most recently he was seconded on a consultancy basis by Tesco, to overhaul the retailer’s existing forecourt recycling operations across the UK.

Whitham Mills has recently reported a 35 per cent increase in year-on-year turnover, and has brought in McGreavy to help manage increased demand for its one-stop-shop offering of recycling machinery, consumables, and after-sales service and repair. He will be responsible for sales and business development from Scotland down to Birmingham.

Whitham Mills’ managing director, Ben Smart, said: “Paddy has great understanding of the recycling industry and an impressive track record at DS Smith. His appointment is a major coup for us. “We’re confident he’ll be able to put his industry experience and contacts to work: growing the domestic side of our business, as we continue to rollout our end-to-end offering of equipment, consumables and service.” McGreavy added: “I’d previously dealt with Whitham Mills as a customer and had always been impressed with the professionalism and dedication to service.

“The company’s upward trajectory and the obvious investment into its facilities, and its people, was a major draw. I’m looking forward to transferring my previous skills into a growing, entrepreneurial Northern business.”

Whitham Mills recently relocated to 33,000 sq ft headquarters at the Stakehill Industrial Estate, on the outskirts of Manchester.
