Scootech demonstrates safety and sustainability with integrated electronics

As part of European Mobility Week, the Plastics Technology Centre Aimplas has unveiled Scootech, a demonstrator electric scooter that integrates plastronics technology. Plastronics combines electronics with plastics, enabling lighter, more efficient, and recyclable designs.

The scooter incorporates flexible electronics, capacitive sensors, and hybrid LED lighting directly into its plastic components. According to Aimplas researchers, this reduces the number of parts, simplifies assembly, and improves recyclability. Features include touch buttons for power and lighting, a slider to adjust headlight intensity, and heated handles using innovative 3D-printed resistors.

Additional safety elements include a smart helmet with a presence sensor and a pressure sensor on the scooter to detect user weight. These systems aim to improve interaction and safety. AIMPLAS emphasized that such solutions could also benefit other sectors, including automotive, healthcare, packaging, and consumer electronics.

With Scootech, Aimplas aims to demonstrate how plastronics can drive both sustainability and product innovation. The organization sees the technology as a key enabler for future applications across mobility and beyond.
