Scope of environmental activities

EU environmental economy employment covers activities in environmental protection, including waste and wastewater management, as well as broader environmental services. It also includes resource management activities such as energy efficiency measures in construction, renewable energy production and forest management.

Output expansion continues

According to Eurostat, the EU environmental economy generated €1.33 billion in output in 2023, an increase of 4.3% compared with 2022. Since 2014, output has grown at an average annual rate of 7.9%, nearly doubling from €0.68 billion.
