The updated RecyClass packaging recyclability guidelines aim to reflect current sorting and recycling conditions in Europe. According to the organisation, the revisions are intended to support the development of plastic packaging that can be processed in existing recycling systems and contribute to the recyclability targets set out in the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.

The organisers of the Plastics Recycling Awards Europe 2026 have announced the shortlist of finalists. The winners of the seven awards will be revealed on 6 May at the Plastics Recycling Show Europe, where all the finalists will also be showcased.

A study conducted by IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, TERRA and Swedish Plastic Recycling has been published in The International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment and analyses the climate impact of different plastic packaging waste treatment methods in a Swedish context. The findings highlight significant differences between recycling approaches currently applied in Europe and point to potential implications for EU climate and circular economy legislation.

The project also reflects forthcoming regulatory requirements in the European Union. Under the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), minimum recycled content targets are expected to apply to certain packaging types, including contact-sensitive applications. Against this background, the partners examined how PCR high-density polyethylene (PCR HDPE) performs under conditions relevant to cosmetic and personal care use.

With the Certification, the city is gaining a powerful framework to turn ambition into action. The process will help Tallinn sharpen its strategy, engage its residents, and accelerate the shift to local reuse, repair, and recycling systems. 

Renting clothes can reduce the fashion industry's enormous environmental impact, but so far, the business models have not worked very well. The best chance of success is for a rental company to provide clothing within a niche market, such as specific sportswear, and to work closely with the suppliers and clothing manufacturers. This is shown by a study led by researchers at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, which highlights the measures that can make clothing rental a success.

During its General Assembly and Branch General Assemblies on 25-26 March, EURIC re-elected President Olivier François (Galloo, France) for a 3-year term. The new Presidency is supported by four Vice-Presidents: Alicia Garcia-Franco, Director General of FER (Spain); Cinzia Vezzosi, President of Assofermet (Italy); Peter Hodecek, Executive Board Member of the REON Group (Austria); and Sebastian Will, Deputy Chairman of bvse (Germany), who was also appointed as Treasurer.
