The project brings together packaging producers, food manufacturers and waste management companies. Amcor contributes recycling and technical expertise from its CleanStream recycling facility in Leamington Spa, United Kingdom, as well as from its packaging production site in Randers, Denmark. This includes experience in the design and manufacture of food packaging using recycled materials.

The QT-AIT.Circularity provides a fast and cost-efficient method to simulate the impact of multiple mechanical recycling loops on PET recyclate quality. The test supports early-stage evaluation of packaging concepts and complements EPBP's existing tools for assessing PET bottle circularity.

Haelixa's DNA marker is applied directly to post-industrial and post-consumer waste, before shredding, staying intact through New Focus Textiles' mechanical recycling process. The non-toxic DNA marker, which is derived from Swiss mountain herbs, is a permanent tag, and cannot be removed or copied, remaining embedded throughout spinning, weaving, dyeing, and finishing.

Coordinated by Aalborg University (Denmark), the project brings together 19 partners from 12 countries to develop novel circular value chains that convert non-recyclable plastic waste into highly recyclable and non-persistent packaging materials.

Approximately 132 kilograms of food waste per person was generated across the European Union in 2022 amounting to just over 59 million tonnes of food waste and the environmental and economic impacts are high, according to the EEA report 'Preventing waste in Europe — Progress and challenges, with a focus on food waste'. The assessment gives the latest bi-annual check-up on waste prevention actions via data and trends.

The event that gathered more than 130+ participants, began with a presentation by Mariska Boer, President of EuRIC's Textiles Branch, who outlined EuRIC's manifesto and its key recommendations for achieving textile circularity by 2030. These include defining robust ecodesign requirements, strengthening fair trade, implementing efficient EPR schemes, and balancing chemicals legislation.

The result is an ultra-modern sorting facility has been built to process plastics from mixed post-consumer packaging. Around two thirds of the input is polypropylene (PP) film; with the rest comprising polyethylene (PE) and a mix of polyolefins (PO), predominantly from pre-sorted material from post-consumer packaging facilities across Europe - from Austria to Norway.
