Develon introduces AI safety for excavators

The safety package combines artificial intelligence, camera and radar systems with automated machine intervention. Key components include the Smart All-Around Viewing Monitor (SAVM), collision risk alerts and an Emergency Stop (E-Stop) system developed for excavators.

Using six cameras and three radar sensors, the system provides real-time 360-degree monitoring with a detection range of up to 13 metres. Operators can select multiple viewing modes to monitor all sides of the machine and reduce blind spots. When personnel are detected, visual and audible warnings are issued via the in-cab display.

The E-Stop function works with a Virtual Wall feature that defines safety zones around the excavator. In the yellow warning zone at six metres, the system provides alerts and reduces travel speed. In the red danger zone at four metres, swing and reverse movements are automatically stopped. The detection system is configured to recognise human presence and differentiate it from objects.

The Virtual Wall function also allows operators to restrict machine movement in defined areas, reducing the risk of collisions with structures or equipment and limiting potential downtime.
