Standard instead of rare

The future energy supply and digitalization will drastically increase the demand for raw materials. Permanent magnets made of rare earth metals are the focus of interest. The war in Ukraine has highlighted the need to secure supply chains for these magnets. Due to their properties, rare earth metal permanent magnets are key components in many technologies of the energy transition. However, their applications go far beyond that. CEPS explains the current situation and outlines a path to developing a supply chain for rare earth permanent magnets in Europe.
