Solutions to the plastics crisis

Increasing recycling rates is the most effective solution to the global plastics problem. However, it is often much cheaper to use new material instead. Scientists are working to improve the efficiency of recycling, but there are still many challenges in terms of recycling technologies, sorting, economics and consumer behaviour.
