  • To neutralise the human impact on the climate, excess CO₂ must be removed from the atmosphere. According to Swiss scientists, excess renewable energy can be used to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere and convert it to methane or methanol, which can then be processed into polymers, hydrogen and solid carbon. At the end of their life cycle, discarded building materials become the ultimate carbon sink. The article “Mining the atmosphere: A concrete solution to global warming” was published in “Resources, Conservation & Recycling”.

  • In February 2025, Weltec Biopower has successfully completed the commissioning and handover of a dairy RNG (Renewable Natural Gas / biomethane) plant in Barron County, Wisconsin. After just four months of construction, the dairy farm produces 2.36 million standard cubic meters of RNG/biometha¬ne annually (86,600 MMBTU per year).

  • EuRIC welcomes the provisional agreement on the targeted revision of the Waste Framework Directive (WFD), reached by the European Parliament and Council on 19 February, as it marks a significant step forward for the circular economy and textile waste management. However, urgent support is still required to address the unprecedented crisis currently facing the EU’s textile reuse and recycling sector.

  • Despite steady progress in key areas, the European Union is only partially on track to achieve the EU’s 2030 climate, environment and sustainability objectives, according to the latest monitoring report published by the European Environment Agency (EEA). More decisive measures are needed to boost a circular economy, reverse the declining trend in biodiversity and in reducing the EU’s consumption footprint.
