High speed aerobic waste processing machine installed in India's Bengaluru

JERS Environment Technologies Pvt. Ltd. has installed a high speed aerobic waste processing machine that can process wet municipal waste in about two to four hours in India's Bengaluru city. JERS has installed the machine in cooperation with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike.

JERS claims that it is the first such machine in the city. The machine has been installed at the BBMP Solid Waste Processing Centre in Koramangala locality.

"We are open to all kinds of new ideas in which waste processing can be done at the local level. We are trying to get those incorporated," said Subodh Yadav, Special Commissioner, Solid Waste Management, BBMP.

“Unlike conventional anaerobic composting, this machine can process waste in two to four hours," said JERS marketing manager Gnana Prakash Anthony.

The machine ferments waste in a vacuum-sealed container with temperatures controlled at 60 degrees Celsius by allowing steam into the vault. Locally available microbes are used to quicken the process.

The machine can be also used r other industries that generate large amount of wet waste, such as slaughterhouses and fisheries. It is capable of processing four tonnes a day. It processes 400 kg in one cycle. The temperature and moisture removal can be controlled externally, depending on the nature of the waste being processed. The end products are compost and the non-biodegradable part of the waste.
