In 2023, Geminor handled 2,403,820 tonnes of waste fractions in Europe for material recycling and energy recovery. This sets a new group tonnage record and marks a single-year growth of 32 percent, surpassing the 2022 total of 1,815,281 tonnes.

Kjetil Vikingstad, CEO of Geminor, is delighted as the Group surpasses the milestone of handling over 2 million tonnes of waste resources in a single year. “In 2023, we fortified our presence and organizational structure across multiple European markets, with a stronger focus on recycling plastics and managing hazardous waste. As we move into 2024, we aim to build upon this progress,” affirms Mr Vikingstad.

Residual waste for energy recovery (RDF/SRF) accounts for approx. 74 percent in 2023 and continues to be the largest share of the handled tonnage in the group. This constitutes a growth of over 550,000 tonnes from 2022.

While some markets in the Nordics showed a slight decrease in volumes last year, Geminor is witnessing substantial growth in three EU waste markets. Italy and Poland more than doubled their tonnage compared to 2022, while the UK increased the residual waste handling by 48 percent in 2023.

“The growth we are experiencing has far exceeded our expectations, reaching an impressive 2.4 million tonnes well ahead of schedule. This has been possible due to our expansion in different waste markets across Europe and a solid team effort by our many industry experts,” says Kjetil Vikingstad.
